CEIF conducted a Product Development and Shariah Compliance Forum with Dr. Ryan Calder, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Islamic studies at Johns Hopkins University, on Thursday, 13th of October, 2016 at IBA City Campus. The topic of the discussion was "How Islamic Financial Ethics Evolve: The Politics of Tawarruq in Malaysia, Oman, and Saudi Arabia".

Dr. Ryan Calder received an A.B. from Harvard (Inner Asian and Altaic Studies) and an MA and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (Sociology). His main areas of interest are in Islamic law, jurisprudence (fiqh), and pious practice under conditions of contemporary capitalism and globalization.
